Let’s play the what-if game. In the gospel for the Sunday, what if Peter left Jesus? We wouldn’t have the Eucharist. We wouldn’t have a pope. We wouldn’t have the Catholic Church. We wouldn’t have the sacraments. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift would never have met. But seriously, Jesus Christ stakes everything, all of salvation, on the mere chance that Peter would say yes and stay with Him. That’s how important the Eucharist is. This is mind-blowing. So we are called to say yes to Jesus, stay with Him, and never leave. And the world will change when we do that. So stay close to Jesus, stay close to the Eucharist, remain with Him, and get after it. This is Spirit Juice, peace.

Bible study mode activate. The first reading for this Sunday from Isaiah is fire. God is speaking to the people of Israel, saying, “I will place the keys of the House of David on the shoulder of Eliakim. When he shuts it, no one will open it. And when he opens, no one shall shut. When the king is away, Eliakim, you are in charge.” We see this again in the Gospel. Jesus says…

Will You Know Jesus?
If I were blindfolded and placed in front of a lineup of women, one of them being my mom, I absolutely would be able to choose my mom out of the lineup because I know her. I know how she speaks to me. I know what she smells like. I know everything about her. I know it all. In the gospel for this Sunday, Jesus speaks to those who are not prepared, amen. I do not know you. It’s terrifying…

Keep It Simple
A couple of weeks ago, a student approached me after mass and told me, “Hey, Father, you’re homily today. It has many overly complicated words. Next time, make it simpler.” And then they left, and then I cried myself to sleep. A lot of the time, we overcomplicate things. All we have to do is make things simple. This is precisely what the apostles do in the gospel for this Sunday. Jesus told the…
