Man, I’m pumped. Today is the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Sounds like something from Dr. Strange. And then in the Gospel today, the good thief says, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” That we have a kingdom, that we have a king. We don’t have a king that wears a golden crown. We have a king who wears thorns. We don’t have a king that is lifted up above the world to lord over his kingship.
He is lifted up on the cross in blessing and sacrifice for us. And so be able to ask the question today, “Is Jesus the Lord over my life? Is Jesus the Lord over my work? Is Jesus the Lord over my friendships? Is Jesus the Lord over my family?” Because he is a king worth dying for, he is a king worth living for. The kings of this earth, the world leaders, social media influencers – they all go out of style. But the king of the universe, he’s eternal.

What If
Let’s play the what-if game. In the gospel for the Sunday, what if Peter left Jesus? We wouldn’t have the Eucharist. We wouldn’t have a pope. We wouldn’t have the Catholic Church. We wouldn’t have the sacraments. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift would never have met. But seriously, Jesus Christ stakes everything, all of salvation, on the mere chance that Peter would say yes and stay with Him. That’s how important…

Voice of God

Harold could not hear anything, so doctors placed a hearing aid in his ear, which is the reaction of Harold hearing sound for the first time. And this picture is so moving, but what we hear in the gospel for this Sunday is even more moving and more incredible. Jesus Christ takes a deaf man away from the crowd…

Reject the Squidward Within
There is this guy. You may know him, you may not. His name is Squidward Tentacles. Squidward Tentacles is incredibly negative. He is constantly judging, and he is always finding fault in others. He is not a fun person to be around. The thing is, we can do that as well. We are so attracted to negativity. We’re drawn to crazy comments on social media…
