Let’s talk about my dad. So when I was a kid, about a year ago… One of my most formative things was seeing my dad pray on his knees, praying to someone more important than him. As a kid, I saw my dad as the supreme commander of the universe.
Seeing him answer to someone even more significant than him, loved by someone even greater than him, was so freeing for me just to be a kid and loved by my dad. In the gospel for this Sunday, Saint John the Baptist says, “There is someone who is coming after me that is greater than I, that is the Lord our God.” And so John the Baptist is secure in that because he knows he is not the center of the universe. And so my question, especially on the second Sunday of Advent, is your life pointing towards something greater than yourself? The great news is that I am not the center of the universe; you are not the center of the universe, and we can be safe and secure in being his sons and daughters.

The Narrow Gate
I just got back from an incredible camping trip in Montana. One thing that was so amazing about this trip is that in order to go to this camping site, we had to go into this narrow valley. And in this narrow valley, we couldn’t use our phones at all and we knew that. We were willing to give up our phones, our social media, everything…

Something That Lasts
I recently took my college kids on a pilgrimage to Orvieto, Italy. Orvieto is the home to a Eucharistic Miracle, and I could talk about the Eucharistic Miracle all day. What is so crazy is that St. Thomas Aquinas lived during the time of this Eucharistic Miracle. St. Thomas Aquinas fell so deeply in love with Jesus and the Eucharist that he wrote “The Tantum Ergo.” “The Tantum Ergo” is sung every day around the world…

Acknowledge Jesus
A few weeks ago, I walked by a literal fight between a Chicago Cubs fan and a Chicago White Sox fan, and it was incredible to see how convicted they were that their team was correct. We can easily be convicted of many things like that – sports, politics, or whether the toilet paper roll is over or under. It’s over. When it comes to saying grace in public or…
