So, Captain America is obviously the best out of all the superheroes. When he receives the soldier serum, he becomes more of himself. He doesn’t become less of himself. He becomes perfected. Before the serum, he was weak, but he was good. After the serum, he is still good and perfected. This is precisely what Jesus says in the gospel today: that we believe in the resurrection of the body. Just like Jesus, whose body is resurrected in heaven, our bodies will be resurrected. This is what we pray in the creed every single Sunday. I believe in the resurrection of the body. This is incredible. We are weak now, but with Jesus, we won’t be less human. We will be more human. We will be perfected with him. This is incredible news, and it rocks my socks.
Before we can even fathom the glory of heaven, before we can even envision our resurrected, perfected bodies, we must make a personal choice. We must say yes to Jesus right here, right now. This is a theological concept and a decision that will shape our eternity.

God is a Just God
The Gospel for this Sunday is all about the judge. You know who is a bad judge? Scarecrow from “The Dark Knight Rises.” Scarecrow is one of the villains who presides over a kangaroo court, condemning the aristocracy to death. And he gives them two options, either death or exile. And both of those options lead to death…

Ascension of the Lord
So, you know that part of the Mass where everyone has received communion, and then the priest sits down. Everyone in the church then follows the priest and sits down, and it’s like this great relief. It’s this great sigh. And what’s so awesome is that we feel this great relief because everything has been accomplished. Everything is finished. We get to be…
